ASIA

This is one of the most vulnerable regions to the effects of climate change. This emanates from the underlying challenges that come with a developing region. Such regions tend to struggle to balance between development and meeting their environmental commitments under the United Nations Agreements such as UNFCCC. It becomes critical that this region be represented by young people who not only understand the region’s challenges, development agenda but also the climate change context.

Europe.

As one of the regions attributed to be the largest sources of climate finance, it becomes critical that the young people from this region join hands with the rest of the other young people from across the world in asking the regions climate change players to keep their committments and support to climate action. It will be critical that these young people from this region also help to push for not only multilateral financing but also bilateral financing and partnerships for climate action. These young people need to understand that effects affecting the rest of the international commmunity when it comes to climate change.

Africa

This is the region most vulnerable to the effects of climate change and historically has been left behind in previous climate change advancements such as the CDM which only few of its countries benefited. This is the region with the most pressing underlying issues such as poverty and food security. As most economies are relying on rainfed agriculture, the effects are bound to be escalated by the impacts of climate change. As a developing continent that only recently acquired independence, its massive youth population that is expected to double by 2050 must rise to the occasion and take charge of the climate action agenda within the continent.

North America.

As home to some of the most powerful economies in the world, this region must continue to step up their support for climate action in every way. This should be through both multlateral and bilateral financing. Young people from this continent need to be at the board to enable them to understand why climate action is important and why finance is critical at this hour. They must also continue to diplomatically lobby for reduction in carbon emissions and support the region in significantly reducing their agreement and meeting the Paris Agreement Target.

South America.

This region is one of the most vulnerable regions to the impacts of climate change and are among the regions which have alot to lose within the climate crisis. As a region also within the developing state, the youth from this region must understand the underlying conditions of the region that might hinder it from realizing the climate agenda. As a result they must push to bridge this gap to ensure that the needed climate action is required for the region in the race to 2030.
